Body contouring refers to procedures to help reshape parts of your body, mainly your mid-section, upper arms and thighs. This is most commonly for previously obese people who lost weight rapidly, or had weight loss surgery, and have excess skin and fat. However, it can be used to reduce love-handles and stubborn fatty areas on your body.
How does body contouring work?
The procedure is very short and is not invasive, meaning no surgery is involved. When you lose weight, you’re decreasing the size of your fat cells, but not the amount of fat cells you have. When you lose fat, which is the case of body contouring, you’re actually decreasing the number of fat cells in the targeted area.
The procedure uses radio frequency technology to destroy fat cells with a machine that sends controlled pulses to the area. After a few minutes on one area, Dr. Kleiman will move onto other areas. Each patient is different and a customized plan will be created for you, but typically, a patient will have a couple of treatment sessions spanning a few weeks apart.
What are the results and recovery time like?
Most patients see results 6 weeks after treatment is completed, with optimal results happening 12 weeks after treatment is completed.
The best part of body contouring is that there is no downtime. You can go right back to your normal routine immediately after treatment. You may experience redness or tenderness in the treated area(s), but this usually only lasts a couple of hours.
